Coilliot était un personnage original, artiste et mécène. Entrepreneur en céramique, il voulait lancer le procédé de la lave émaillée. Il fit appel à Guimard, rencontré en 1897 à l'exposition la céramique et tous les arts du feu, pour ériger une façade, sorte d'affiche publicitaire pour donner un prestige certain au siège de son entreprise. Cette maison est non seulement importante pour le parti décoratif, mais aussi par la prouesse architecturale, étant logée dans une parcelle très étroite et dissymétrique. Guimard y appliqué son principe de l'art en tout, dessinant tout et intégrant le mobilier à la structure architecturale.Classement monument historique :
